I feel terrible about this, but I just can’t watch TNG anymore right now. I have almost made it through season 6 of TNG and it’s time for a change. And while this is probably blasphemous, I have only found two characters on TNG really interesting. That is Picard and Data. The rest of the characters I could do without. So starting DS9, I am already expecting better characters. Quark, Odo, Kira, Dax, even Bashir seem like excellent new developments. Not sure how Sisko holds up yet, but I am excited to see how he handles the Captain’s chair.
I have to say though, that out of all Star Trek I have seen, TNG has by far the best production design. So far, DS9 is a pale imitation of TNG as far as sets are concerned. TNG has the future right on the money. Everything is clean and sleek, beautiful and practical in TNG. I imagine it is the closest to the way the future will look. That is a great achievement.
So, onward to DS9!
