I was watching the first episode of Prophets of Science Fiction, which is about Mary Shelley. Her novel, Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus can be argued to be the first fully realized work of science fiction. And linked here is the first adaptation of Frankenstein into a motion picture, created by the Edison company. And so, Edison, the inventor of the first commercially practical incandescent light also brings us the first creation of man through electricity to the screen. The special effects are interesting in this early film. Man literally comes from fire. Take the 12 minutes to watch this early science fiction.
