I was reading through this to see what I had thought of in terms of movie ideas and I realized how immaturely or irrationally I think sometimes. Over the span of this journal I have been refining my philosophy of movie making. I want to make something that leads people to the truth, not something that leads them to philosophy. The movie will contain insights I have learned about life, but it’s not going to be meaningless. I have insights about how to live life because I know the truth of God. But if I shared the insight in isolation without the knowledge of God then it loses its value. But anyway, I am not going to tell people things in my movie. I will be a guide, they can take from it what they will. But one thing my movie cannot do, it cannot lead them away from the truth. If it does then all is lost. If I make a fantasy movie simply for entertainment, what good is that? It may become a big hit or cult-favorite but it serves no purpose and has no meaning. It does not complete the goal in which I set out to accomplish. If the movie is not beneficial then it doesn’t have a point and I am not wasting my time making it. So basically my movie will point to God without shoving Christianity in people’s faces. It could be fantasy like CS Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia. I’d like to make a serious movie but I also like to make a nice fun one too, like the Coen Brothers. Anyway, I will not misuse the power of film to manipulate people (except that’s really what film is about; manipulating emotions).
