Curious Alice

This project is awesome! It’s a VR experience that puts you in Alice in Wonderland. It begins with you falling down the rabbit hole, which is so cool to see in VR because it feels like you are there. You are able to look up and down and all around to see the objects passing you by as you take a tumble into a new land.

When you are done falling, you find yourself with a box of choices. You can pick up a bottle marked “Drink Me” and play croquet with the Queen of Hearts (complete with hedgehogs and flamingos). To get out of there, you take a cookie labeled “Eat Me” where you grow very large.

There is an option to smoke a pipe that takes you to the caterpillar, who smokes from a hookah and asks you riddles from the book. And there is another option that has you search for and catch an escaped glove using a search light. And there, of course, is a white rabbit.

The animation by master illustrator Kristjana S. Williams is gorgeous. It looks hand drawn, the colors are vivid. It looks like nothing else I have seen in VR yet.

There’s not much of a narrative so if you don’t know anything about Alice in Wonderland, I am not sure how much of this will make sense, but I know it will be a neat experience even to those unfamiliar with the story. The animation alone makes this experience worth checking out.
