Some of you reading this know me: I am a movie fanatic. I go out to the movie theater at least once a week. Even tonight, I am going to see one of my favorite horror movies, The Horror of Dracula, at the New Beverly Cinema. I can’t wait!
Movies are my life. And I am currently working on an adaptation of my horror screenplay The Empties as a graphic novel. Well, first, a series of comic books.
It took a chunk of change and a huge learning process to find the perfect artist for the job. I searched a variety of sources such as https://www.artstation.com/, http://www.hireanillustrator.com/, https://www.behance.net/, http://www.craigslist.org, various Meetup Groups in Los Angeles, and word of mouth. Ultimately, someone recommended Eli Powell, who I hired for the job.
We are working together to bring my story to the page and are about six pages into the first comic book. When all is said and done, this first book will be about 24 pages and the entire Graphic Novel will be somewhere between 130 and 150 pages.
I can tell you, creating comics is a blast. It’s really helping with the visualization process, and has the added benefit of showing where the flaws are in the screenplay. I have gone through a couple of revisions thanks to this process and the screenplay is better for it.
That’s where I’m at, and I’ll keep you updated as we progress!
