Europa Report (2013, Dir. Sebastián Cordero)
This is one of the worst science fiction films I have ever seen. The documentary style allows the filmmakers to be absolutely lazy and there is not a single well composed shot in the entire movie. Europa Report pretends to be hard science fiction but really has little scientific basis. I mean, these astronauts measure time by months! Months! That’s not a very accurate way of measuring time.
This a “found footage” movie and the biggest trick is an interview with one of the actors talking about the mission. It’s completely implausible that this character would be talking about the journey in retrospect during the mission, but this is just so the audience doesn’t guess the surprise ending right away.
And though the team proves the existence of life/ aliens on Europa, a moon of Jupiter, the Nasa team on earth acts as if they only possibly made any scientific discovery of value. Actually, come to think of it, this might be the only realistic thing in the movie. Hard evidence of alien life made public being treated as something of little value scientifically.
Don’t waste your time with this garbage.
