Break Glass in Case of… (2013, Dir. Jacob de la Rosa)
My friend, Jacob de la Rosa, just released his first feature, the scifi comedy “Break Glass in Case of…”. You can watch the trailer here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErxIDonToi0
I had the honor of working with Jacob for a short period on this project and the honor of watching the final cut with him so needless to say, I am biased. I also know most of the people involved.
So having acknowledged my bias, I have to say this movie is a blast. Jacob made an entertaining movie from start to finish. Tom Baker voices the robot Monica, one of the many interesting characters in the movie. This movie is a throwback to the zany popcorn movies of the 1980’s like Ghostbusters, Back to the Future,or Gremlins though unfortunately Jacob did not have the budget for more. He proves how much he can do with so little.
One strange night brings together a group of misfits who must fight to escape after they are trapped in a building by the release of a mysterious green gas. Suddenly a space rocker and his robot girlfriend appears, an elevator genie (not really a genie but looks like one), a detective of sorts, robot clones and a shadow monster all appear and either aid or prevent their escape. And the fun begins.
One of my favorite characters was the janitor played by Dan Falicki. As Jacob noted, he is just terrible at his job. In fact, everyone is… Which is awesome.
The score by Josh White is very impressive.
Jacob is working on distribution, and I will help him any way I can. So keep your eye on Netflix or iTunes (or come over to my house) for this fun feature.
