Iron Man 3 IMAX 3D Review

Iron Man 3 (Dir. Shane Black, 2013)

I have become a fan of Iron Man (finally). It took a while for me to warm up to Iron Man, but Iron Man 3 makes me want to go back and watch all the movies (and catch up by watching the Avengers). Robert Downey Jr. is excellent as usual but Ben Kingsley deserves an oscar (again). And unfortunately that is all I can say about The Mandarin (Kingsley).

So, story wise there are a few clever and entertaining twists. The relationship with Pepper Pots is much stronger than in the first two Iron Man movies. In fact, it is wonderful. They do seem to be in love. The story is entertaining but I think this is more like a Hollywood roller coaster. It’s better for the ride. The technical effects are so entertaining. The action sequences are awesome. It’s truly a piece to be appreciated for it’s technical ingenuity maybe even more so than story (but I have no complaints about the story).

This is the second movie I have seen that is better in 3D than in 2D (I imagine at least). Avatar would be the other movie. You may remember from a few posts ago how much I loved Jurassic Park in 3D but that movie is perfect as is and it is not better in 3D, though it is freaking awesome in 3D. I did not see Iron Man 3 in 2D or Avatar in 2D but wow, I can’t imagine this movie without 3D. It was thrilling! One of my favorite parts in 3D is when Aldrich Killian (Guy Pierce) shows Pepper Pots his brain. In 3D, we also are surrounded by the universe of synapses and energy moving through the brain. This 3D is the kind of thing that makes a holodeck seem possible within my lifetime.

For those of you who did not see it in 3D, you missed out, but I’m sure you still had a great time.

If you haven’t seen it, you should. The only annoying thing is that it is set at Christmas time. And hey, it’s summer out here!
